Default Nuker Melee Weapon

I just started a new character, a nuker (E/Me). The build directory said to get a melee weapon so i can get close to the enemy, making a good opertunity to use the close fire attacks. I was wondering if i should get a max damage weapon (with a high requirement) when I'm not even warrior, or a crap damage weapon (with no requirement or a low one). Thank you for your help!

The high req will make the weapon usless, as in u only do the dmg if you have that level in the skill

Well why not use the fire wand? or a fire staff since your a nuker?

Elementalists were not built for close contact, even with droknars armour, you will get smoked like summer sausage

well i myself if i have a max dmg weapon i just use that as as i go up in lvls so will the dmg ( when adding attributes ) and when it says melee it doesn't always mean a sword or axe or hammer, i believe it also includes al the rest rods, staves, canes, etc. I would look for a max dmg weapon that does a type of dmg that is like the skill you are using ie fire lighting earth , it's really up to you expermint and see what works best for you.

Get the collectors Fire wand/flame artifact. The improved skill recharge chance and cast speed is almost a necessity if you are using fire, seeing as most fire spells take awhile to cast, and recharge fairly slow.
Then just run up to the enemy if you want PBAoE spells like phoenix or whatnot.

Nukers are supposed to do close up damage, a fire wand would not do that, because you have to get close in order to do the close attacks (EXAMPLE: Pheonix) Thats why i was wondering if i shuld use a max or not melee weapon...
